Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the axial length of an automatic transmission while making torque transmission characteristics of a torque converter variable.SOLUTION: A stator 6 is supported to a stator shaft 3 on a fixed side through an electromagnetic clutch 20 installed in a converter housing. The electromagnetic clutch 20 holds a magnetic viscous fluid M between an outer race 25 of a magnetic body fixed to the stator 6 through a stator base 21, and an inner race 26 of a magnetic body coupled to the stator shaft 3 through a spline member 30, and fixes and releases the stator 6 by energization control to a coil 28 provided on the inner race 26.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
