To reduce an axial dimension of a lockup device, allowing the overall space occupied by a torque converter in the axial direction to be compact, and reduce the number of parts.
The lockup device includes a piston 10, first and second plates 11, 12, and a plurality of outer circumferential side and inner circumferential side torsion springs 14, 15. The piston 10 presses or releases pressing of a friction member 19 fixed to a side surface of the piston 10 against a front cover 2. Furthermore, the piston 10 has a plurality of engaging parts 10c formed with a portion thereof bent towards a turbine. The second plate 12 is coupled to the turbine. The outer circumferential side torsion springs 14 are placed between the piston 10 and the first plate 11, and ends thereof in a circumferential direction are engaged with the engaging parts 10c of the piston 10 to transmit torque from the piston 10 to a first plate 11 side.
