Title:
TORQUE CONVERTER USING MAGNETIC VISCOUS FLUID
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2013204674
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a torque converter using a magnetic viscous fluid which ensures reliable lock-up and does not affect a torque amplifying function.

In a fixed side unit housing 6 filled with a magnetic viscous fluid, a pump impeller 11, a turbine runner 15, and a stator 20 are arranged to form a circulation path A. In a space S on an inner side of the circulation path A and between an input shell 12 of the pump impeller 11 and an output shell 16 of the turbine runner 15, first clutch plates 32 on the pump impeller 11 side and second clutch plates 35 on the turbine runner 15 side are alternately arranged in an axial direction, and a yoke part 40 equipped with a coil 42 is arranged in an alignment direction across the output shell 16. A magnetic circuit by coil energization changes a viscosity of the magnetic viscous fluid present in gaps between clutch plates 32 and 35 for slip control. Since the magnetic circuit is isolated from the circulation path A, it does not affect the magnetic viscous fluid in the circulation path A.
