Abstract:

To provide a torque converter with a multiple disc type lock-up clutch capable of achieving an automatic transmission excellent in loading ability on a vehicle body even in the case of an FF (front engine front drive) vehicle.

This torque converter with multiple disc type lock-up clutch for a vehicle includes a torus T, which is structured of a pump 20, a turbine 30 and a stator 40, in a case 10 connected to an output shaft of an engine, and a lock-up clutch 60 directly connecting the turbine 30 and the case 10 to each other is disposed on an inner peripheral side, and a lock-up damper 70 is disposed on an outer peripheral side. An outer diameter D1 of the torus T is set within a range of 240-270 mm, and the lock-up clutch 60 and a lock-up damper 70 are disposed to be overlapped with each other in the axial direction, and a ratio D1/D2 of the outer diameter D1 of the torus T to the inner diameter D2 of the torus is set within a range of 1.5-1.6.
