Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque converter capable of attaining excellent quietness and vibration control performance by accurately absorbing torque fluctuation even in a case of changing the number of operating cylinders of an engine.SOLUTION: First and second lock-up clutches 40, 41 are provided in a lock-up mechanism 33 that directly connects the side of a pump impeller 30 and the side of a turbine liner 31 in a contactable and separatable manner; first and second damper springs 48, 58 are interposed in each of first and second power transmission passages respectively formed by the first and second lock-up clutches 40, 41; and through fastening control to the first and second lock-up clutches 40, 41, damper rigidity in locking up from the lock-up mechanism 33 is subjected to variable control according to the number of operating cylinders of an engine.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
