To provide a torque limiter, more simple in structure, decreased in number of parts than the conventional torque limiter, and further reduced in width to meet the demands for reduction of thickness.
A plurality of wedged spaces 5 gradually decreased in radial space toward a predetermined direction in the circumferential direction are formed between the outer peripheral surface 21 of an inner ring or a shaft 2 and the inner peripheral surface of an outer ring 1. A torque transmitting member 3 caused to bite into the wedged space 5 by applying external force is disposed in each wedge-like space 5, so that with each torque transmitting member 3 biting into between the inner ring or the shaft 2 and the outer ring 1, the torque is transmitted between the inner ring or the shaft 2 and the outer ring 1 and biting-in of each torque transmitting member is released by the action of torque more than designated, whereby the inner ring or the shaft 2 and the outer ring 1 are formed to run idle, thereby eliminating the need of a spring or the like for energizing the torque transmitting member.
