Abstract:

PURPOSE: To measure the torque received by a shaft without performing any complicated calculation by calculating the phase difference between first and second pulse trains by subtracting the second interval of the difference between the generation of the pulses of the second and first pulse trains from the first interval of the difference between the generation of the pulses of the first and second pulse trains.

CONSTITUTION: When part of a shaft 11 receives torque, the relative angle difference between the teeth supported near one end face of the shaft 11 and the teeth supported on the other end face of the shaft 11 changes. That is, when torque acts on the shaft 11, one-side teeth advance or retreat from the other intermediate teeth by an angle θ. The relation shown by the formula exists between the angle θ and the axial torque t (in.1b). The G of the formula represents the shear modulus (1b/in2) and the radius (r) and length (10) are expressed in inch. Regarding the arrangement of a certain specific transducer and the shaft 11, the torque angle, namely, the measured twist angle value is different from the actual torque by a known constant and, therefore, when one is found, the other can be found immediately.
