To provide a torque transmission device for a steering unit which allows a driver to easily and surely recognize that impulsive torque has been applied to the structural member of the steering unit.
A york 12 is connected to a shaft 13 via a friction member 19. The magnitude of the torque to be transmitted between the york 12 and shaft 13 via the friction member 19 is set to a maximum normal transmission torque or more, which is applied to an input shaft when a steering wheel is operated while a vehicle is parked. When the impulsive torque is applied between the york 12 and shaft 13 due to a collision accident and the like, a phase in the rotational direction of the york 12 and shaft 13 is shifted. As a result, the posture of the steering wheel in a straight traveling state changes, to allow the driver to recognize the impulsive torque applied.
