To provide a low-cost, thin touch panel capable of position detection only by touching, regardless of a materiel used for touching.
A touch panel comprises: a first conductive film having a plurality of isolation regions strip-shaped and elongated in one direction; and a second conductive film and a third conductive film having a plurality of isolation regions strip-shaped and elongated in the other direction substantially orthogonal to the one direction. The isolation regions in the first conductive film are aligned in the other direction. The isolation regions in the second conductive film are aligned in the one direction. The position detection of coordinates by electrostatic capacity coupling are performed by the first conductive film and the second conductive film. An electric potential gradient is generated in a predetermined direction at one of the second conductive film and the third conductive film, and electric potential of a position where the second conductive film touches the third conductive film is detected by the other of the second conductive film and the third conductive film, so that the position detection of coordinates of the touched position is performed.
