To eliminate such a conventional defect that a load ring of a seal assembly is eroded by preventing abrasive substance from invading into a seal hollow between a seal ring and a load ring.
An end face seal 10 seals between first and second members 14 jointed to each other and located at the joint of a track. A flexible mud shield 74 made of elastomer material is provided at the end face seal. The mud shield extends from a seal ring 48 in outer radial direction and has an end part 76 sealingly engaged with the first member at a position outside the load ring 46 to prevent abrasive substance from invading between the seal ring and the load ring and reduce an erosion of the load ring due to wear. Thus, a force to press the load ring against the seal ring in axial sealing direction is held during the effective service life of the end face seal.
