PURPOSE: To seek the head position of a target track easily and accurately with frame unit by shifting a pickup and seeking the head position of a target track corresponding to a second absolute time.
CONSTITUTION: When a target track, e.g. track #5, is reached by coarse seeking, a second absolute time To corresponding to the head position of track #5 is operated based on a first absolute time Tb at the arrived position, an absolute time Tb accumulated from the head position of first track 1, and a time tb within the track at the arrive position, i.e., the time tb within the track measured from the head position of track #5. In other words, the time tb within track is subtracted from the first absolute time Tb to obtain a second absolute time To. The reproduction signal from a disc includes subcode data indicative of the melody number and the absolute time to the head position of track for every frame. The track number 5, the first absolute time Tb and the time tb within the track can be read out from the subcode data.
