PURPOSE: To provide the tracking control circuit of a magnetic recording and reproducing device which discriminates a frequency band where information is recorded and executes tracking adjustment based on a signal only in the frequency band.

CONSTITUTION: When a FM signal outputted from an amplifier 3 is the signal in a high frequency band, the signal of this band passes through only the high- band pass filter 14 of a FM band discrimination circuit 10, then a signal is outputted from a detection part 16. The contact of a switch 17 is connected to a high-band pass filter 12 side by the output of the signal. Consequently, only the signal passing through the high-band pass filter 12 in the band is inputted to a detection part 5 and the tracking adjustment is executed base on only the signal.
