PURPOSE: To accurately and quickly perform the detection and the prediction of a traffic congestion by capturing a measure value as a fuzzy quantity, analyz ing a traffic flow as qualitative motion on (n)-dimensional bird's-eye view, and evaluating the overall tendency of the traffic flow by fuzzy inference.
CONSTITUTION: A traffic flow measuring instrument 1 is comprised of an image processing module 3, a measuring instrument 4, a memory device 9, a display device 10, a display 11, and an output device 12, and the measuring instrument 4 is provided with plural measuring modules 5, a differential module 6, a qualitative fuzzy inference module 7, and an arithmetic module 8. And the detection and the prediction of the traffic congestion are performed by capturing the measured value from an image as the fuzzy quantity, recognizing the traffic flow as the qualitative motion on the (n)-dimensional bird's-eye view, and evaluating the overall tendency of the traffic flow by the fuzzy inference. Thereby, correspondence to the change of the real traffic flow can be improved, and accurate prediction can be performed, and a load on a monitoring job can be remarkably reduced.
