To avoid overlap of vehicles in the view of a camera, and to precisely extract the vehicles by setting the view of the camera not in the vicinity of the center part from the inflow part of a crossing but in the vicinity of an outflow part from the center part of the crossing.
A traffic quantity measuring device processing a picture taken into the camera 101' taking in the picture around the crossing and measuring traffic quantity and a monitor display the picture and various information are provided. In the measuring method using the device, the view 151 of the camera 101' is set in the vicinity of the outflow part from the center part of the crossing as shown in an area surrounded by a dotted line frame having oblique lines inside in a drawing and the flow of the vehicle which flow out after they flow into the crossing (R is the vehicle turning to the right, S is the vehicle going straight and L is the vehicle turning to the left) is measured. When the view 151 of the camera 101' is set in such a way, a part hidden by the vehicles, namely, the overlap of the vehicles within the view 151 is reduced much more and vehicle extraction precision is improved much more compared to a case when the camera is set in the vicinity of the center part from the inflow part of the crossing.
