To provide a passage management system which can properly detect that a passenger has approached a detection area, and smoothly authenticate a medium to be authenticated that the passenger carries.
The passage management system 1 includes a human sensor (passage detection means) 30, a carrier output means for outputting a carrier if the human sensor 30 detects a passenger P, and a radio tag 40 carried by the passenger P. The system is also provided with a reception means for receiving a command output from the radio tag 40, a radio tag reading means for reading a unique ID recorded on the radio tag, an ID identification means for identifying whether the unique ID read is a permitted ID that permits passage through an entrance/exit 3, and a locking means that switches the entrance/exit 3 into a locked state if the unique ID is determined to be the permitted ID. Further, the carrier output means continues to output the carrier during the period in which the human sensor 30 detects the passenger P.
