This transfer device comprises a carriage positioning means comprising a pair of guide rails installed on both right and left side-surface parts of the conveying carriage parallel with each other at an interval generally equal to the width of the both side-surface parts and restraining the lateral movement of the conveying carriage having an enlarged width part formed at the inlet end and a carriage stopper for forcibly stopping the conveying carriage installed near a loading part between the guide rails, a clamp means for clamping the conveying carriage positioned by the carriage positioning means, a conveying means for reciprocating the clamp means installed on a shuttle frame by a specified pitch generally equal to the length of the conveying carriage, and a carriage fixing means for locking all conveying carriages from immediately before the release of the clamp means until immediately after the operation of the clamp means. The clamp means is installed on the shuttle frame at multiple positions at specified pitches, and the carriages on the conveying conveyor are simultaneously or independently conveyed.
