To efficiently perform printing using transfer.SOLUTION: A printer 1 comprises: a control unit 82 which detects the shape of a printing object; and a transfer mechanism 3. The transfer mechanism 3 comprises: a platen roller 32 which conveys a thermal transfer sheet Ns having at least a transfer object layer S4 and a base layer S2 in the conveyance direction D; a thermal head 33 which heats the thermal transfer sheet Ns conveyed by the platen roller 32 on the basis of the shape of the printing object and thermally transfers the base layer to the transfer object layer; and a pressing part 35 which presses the base layer S2 thermally transferred to the transfer object layer S4 toward the printing object.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
