PURPOSE: To obtain good image output by eliminating load variation to recording paper, in performing recording, by cutting off the electromagnetic clutch of a resist roller prior to starting recording.
CONSTITUTION: A timer 14 outputs a signal showing a time T1 to a control part 13 immediately before recording is applied to recording paper sent by a resist roller 4 and the control part 13 releases a clutch 5. The recording paper is held in the nip under a back roller 11 and fed along with an ink donor film 9 in a frictional contact state. After the recording paper is slightly fed by about 1mm, the timer T outputs a signal showing a timer T2 to the control part 13 which, in turn, sends out a recording start control signal to a recording control part 15 and a thermal head 8 is controlled and recording is started. A paper feed motor 6 is stopped slightly before recording is started to prevent the lowering in image quality due to load variation. When a recording finish signal is transmitted to the control part 13 from the recording control part 15, the control part 13 stops the recording motor 6 after a definite time and also stops the timer 14.
