PURPOSE: To make a reduced-size and light-weight transformer by making a primary coil from a split insulated conductor and by slicing coaxially installed conductor and insulated member into sheets, each continuous with each other, for making such a coil unit as is composed of spiral coil elements.
CONSTITUTION: To make a primary-side coil for a welder transformer, an insulated film is laminated on a sheet conductor and the lamination is wound and then the winding is accompanied by a spiral wire cut along an axis. Coil units 39a-39d, which are composed of the thinly-sliced spiral coil elements 20, are inserted into slots 32a-32h which are made on a substrate 30 through both ends of the coil elements. The coil elements 20 are electrically connected at the slots 32a-32h when they are inserted into the slots. As a result, many large- surface-area primary-side coil units can be obtained.
