To obtain a new compound having a specific substituent on an indenyl ligand and useful as a catalyst exhibiting a high activity in the polymerization of an olefin, especially in its process of a heterogeneous polymerization system.
This transition metal compound is a compound of the formula [M1 is a transition metal compound of the III to VI group in the Periodic Table; R7 is H, Si(R12)3, (R12 is H or a 1-40C group); a 1-30C group or the like; R8 is H, Si(R12)3, a 1-30C group capable of forming an azapentalene together with cyclopentadienyl ring or the like; (v) is 0, 1; (l), (m) are each 5 when v=0, and 4 when v=1; L1 is H, a 1-10C hydrocarbon group, a halogen or the like; (o) is 1-4; Z is a cross-link-constituting part between 2 cyclopentadienyl rings], e.g. dimethylsilanediyl(2-methyl-4-(4'-t-butylphenyl)indenyl)(1-indenyl)zirconium dichloride. The compound of formula I is produced e.g. by using dimethylsilanediyl (2-methyl-4-(4'-t-butylphenyl)indene(1-indene) or the like.
