Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain new transition metallic complexes useful in the measurement of the concn. of glucose in a biological or physiological fluid.

CONSTITUTION: The complexes are compds. of formula I [where R1-R3 are each 1-5C alkyl or form a 5-7C heterocycle together with the adjacent N; alk is 1-5C alkylene; R4-R8 are each H, OH, alkoxy, aryloxy or the like; M is a transition metal such as Fe, Ru or Os; X is an anion such as Cl-, PF6-, Br- or BF4-; and (n) is an integer corresponding to the number of positive charges of the ligands and the transition metal], e.g. osmium-bis[4,4'-bisamino-2,2'- bipyridine]-mono [4,4'-bis(triethylammonium methyl)-2,2'bipyridine]. The compds. of the formula I are obtd. by reacting 4,4'-bisbromoalkyl-2,2'-bipyridines with amine compds. of the formula N(R1R2R3) and reacting the resultant compds. of formula II with the metal M and two bipyridine ligands substd. by R5-R8. The compds. of the formula II are new.
