A non-contact power transmission system includes a ground-based transmission device 12, and a vehicle-based transmission device 13, that perform non-contact power transmission through couplers 21 and 41. The ground-based transmission device 12 has a controller 33 that communicates with a vehicle-based controller 51 through a communicating section 34 thereof and a communicating section 52 of the vehicle-based transmission device 13. The vehicle-based controller 51 transmits device information about its own device 13. On the basis of the device information received from the vehicle-based controller 51 and device information about its own device 12, the controller 33 determines whether power transmission (transmission of electricity) to the vehicle-based transmission device 13 is possible. On the basis of the device information received from the controller 33 and the device information about its own device 13, the vehicle-based controller 51 determines whether power transmission (receipt of electricity) between the ground-based transmission device 12 and the vehicle-based transmission device 13 is possible.
