To improve power transmission efficiency by eliminating a chain and a drive shaft through transmitting power to an axle shaft arranged in parallel with an output shaft, via a gear train.
A transmission for an engine is carried on board an all terrain vehicle and has a crankshaft 12 driven by the engine. The crankshaft 12 is arranged in a car body so as to be in parallel to the car width. Rotation of the crankshaft 12 is transmitted to a primary shaft 58 via a centrifugal clutch 48. The primary shaft 58 has a primary pulley 62 having a variable width groove. A secondary pulley 64, which has a variable width groove and is coupled to the primary pulley 62 via a V-belt 65, is provided on a secondary shaft 59. Rotation of the secondary shaft 59 is transmitted to an output shaft 72 via an advance/reverse changing mechanism 90. The output shaft 72 transmits the power of the engine to an axle shaft 73, which is arranged in parallel with the output shaft 72 and is connected to driving wheels 3a, 3b, via gears 79, 80.
