PURPOSE: To effectively utilize a transmitting signal by separating a horizontal synchronizing signal (HD signal) as a clock pulse signal from a video signal, separately transmitting these signals, eliminating the part of the HD signal and inserting other information to this part for transmission.

CONSTITUTION: Signal transmission is defined as a digital signal transmission system among package media, video 5 for MUSE, video disk 6 for MUSE, still picture disk 7 and MUSE decoder 3 to reproduce the signal, and while eliminating the part of the HD signal, the video signal of a high-definition television signal is digitally transmitted. Namely, the clock pulse generated on the signal transmission side is transmitted separately from the video signal, and a clock pulse for a digital signal processing is synchronized to this transmitted clock pulse on the signal reception side so as to horizontally synchronize the video signal. Then, the part of the HD signal to be an unnecessary part is eliminated and to this part, the other information is inserted and transmitted. Thus, the transmitting signal can be effectively utilized.
