To provide a transmission capable of speedily completing a shift causing neither tooth contact nor gear noise when shifting into a nonsynchronous gear train.
The transmission comprises a first clutch 4; a first input shaft 5; a second input shaft 6; an output shaft 7; a planetary gear mechanism 8 including first and second planetary gear trains 19, 20, a band brake 32 and a direct clutch 35; a selective gear train 9 including the nonsynchronous gear train; a second rotating speed detecting means 11; respective actuators for the first clutch 4, band brake 32, direct clutch 35 and selective gear train 9; and a shift control part 16 for controlling the respective actuators. At the request of a shift into the nonsynchronous gear train, the shift control part 16 releases the first clutch 4, fastens the band brake 32, connects the direct clutch 35 to reduce the second rotating speed, and carries out the shift when the second rotating speed becomes a predetermined rotating speed or less.
