To provide such a transmission system as prevents the occurrence of the undesired behavior of a receiver which is caused in such a manner that the interleave releasing device of the receiver transmits undetermined data to an external error code decoder with the undetermined data included at the time of establishing connection between a transmitter and the receiver.

The transmitting method in this transmission system uses convolutional interleaving. The method includes a step in which connection with at least one receiver is started, a step in which external error coding is applied to dummy data, a step in which the dummy data subjected to error coding is supplied to a convolutional interleaving device until the interleaving device at least includes only the dummy data subjected to error coding, and a step in which data outputted by the interleaving device are discarded in the process of supplying the dummy data. Also, a receiving method in the system, and a receiver and a transmitter for performing the receiving method and the transmitting method are provided.
