PURPOSE: To provide a drug-delivery material composed of a polymer having a reduced-type sugar on the side chain and useful as an agent for promoting the absorption of drug through the mucosa of digestive system including the oral cavity, respiratory system, eye, etc.
CONSTITUTION: This drug-delivery material contains a reduced-type glucose polymer having an average molecular weight of 1,000-200,000 and expressed by formula I (X is H, Cl, Br, I, CH3, C2H5, etc.; Y is O, CH2O, etc., or none; (n) is 5-10,000) and/or a reduced-type galactose polymer of formula II, etc., or contains a molecular aggregate containing a reduced-type alkylated sugar. A polymeric medicine composite material for transmucous administration is produced by bonding a polymeric medicine to the drug-delivery material. The composite material has excellent transmucous permeability, enables the administration of a polymeric medicine by a method other than injection such as sublingual, transnasal, transocular or transrectal administration, etc., and is effective for preventing the damage caused by the repetitive administration over a long period.
