Abstract:
A transparent resinous copolymer is produced by first partial killing of a living copolymer species with a multi-functional deactivation agent; and second total deactivation of at least a living tapered block copolymer species (obtained by adding a feed to a reaction medium) by a mono-functional deactivation agent (terminating agent). Production of a transparent resinous copolymer, comprising in a reaction medium, polymerizing a monovinyl-substituted aromatic monomer (S 1) in a solvent in the presence of a polar compound and an initiator (RM) until no unreacted monovinyl-substituted aromatic monomer is left in the so-formed mixture (i) to form at least the species R-S 1-M; adding to the mixture (i) a conjugated diene monomer (B 1) and allowing the polymerization to occur until no conjugated diene is left in the so-formed mixture (ii) to form at least the species R-S1-B1-M; adding to the mixture (ii) a multi-functional deactivator agent (X) to partially kill the living chains present in the so-formed mixture (iii) to form at least the species (S 1-B 1)X; adding to the mixture (iii) a mixture of monovinyl-substituted aromatic monomer (S 2) and conjugated diene monomer (B 2) and allowing the copolymerization to occur until no unreacted monomers are left in the so-formed mixture (iv) to form at least the species R-S 1-B 1-B 2/S 2-M; and recovering the so-formed species R-S 1-B 1-B 2/S 2-M using a terminating agent. An independent claim is also included for a process of manufacturing molded objects, comprising injecting the transparent resinous copolymer or a resinous blend containing the transparent resinous copolymer.
