To provide a gelling agent composition which has stable quality and high stability against high temperatures and light, and furthermore can be used as a fragrant agent and a deodorant having high safety.

The transparent gelling agent composition comprises (a) a copolymer of an ethylenically unsaturated compound and maleic anhydride and/or its basic salt and (b) at least one hydrazide compound represented by formula (I) (wherein n is an integer of 100-2,000) or formula (II) (wherein R1 is a 1-10C alkylene group which may be branched or a phenylene group).
