Abstract:
To provide a transparent roof assembly configured to provide functional illumination without interfering with the field of view.SOLUTION: A transparent roof assembly for a vehicle roof includes: a panel with a transparent area; a light source configured to provide light into the panel; and an output coupling pattern arranged on the surface of the transparent area of the panel. The output coupling pattern includes dots of a light-redirecting material for output coupling of light introduced into the panel. The dots each have an equivalent diameter of 150 micrometers or less, preferably 80 micrometers or less. A total dot surface area of the dots of the output coupling pattern is smaller than 10% of a total surface area of the transparent area. Thus, the transparent area appears transparent during daytime when seen from the inside of the vehicle to the outside of the vehicle, and provides sufficient light into the inside when the light source is switched on.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3C
