To achieve the automation of setting-up of a transported matter by allowing the adjustment of a distance between transported bodies to be performed automatically, rapidly, and accurately, and eliminate the troublesome maintenance of the transported bodies required because an annular endless body is extended.
In a transport device, a first transport body 25a positioned forward of a transported body 3 in the transporting direction is provided on one of a circulating pair of annular endless bodies 20a and 20b, and a second transport body 25b positioned rearward of the transported body 3 is provided on the other, and the transported body 3 is transported by both transport bodies. The annular endless bodies 20a and 20b are drivingly rotated, independently of each other, by driving means 22a and 22b separate from each other. Also, the transport device further comprises a sensor 26 for detecting the phase difference between the annular endless bodies and a control device 24 controlling the drive means 22a and 22b based on the signals from the sensor 26 so that a distance between the first transport body 25a and the second transport body 25b is set to a set width.
