PURPOSE: To search all parts of the inside of a pipe with probes being directed in the accurate orthogonal direction toward the inner surface of the pipe wall at all times by positioning the central shafts of the main body of a travel apparatus by the centripetal action of a centripetal mechanism.
CONSTITUTION: A main part A comprises front and rear main bodies shown by cylindrical parts 1a and 1b housing inspecting devices in the insides. Central shafts 2 are fixed to the main body part A. Mechanisms B having the completely same shape are provided as one set at the front and rear parts. A disc shaped rotary body 14 is provided at a probe holding part C. The rotary body is rotated with a rotation driving device. A probe 15 is mounted on an arbitrary one point on the circumference of the rotary body in the circumferential direction. Compressing force in the circumferential direction acts on a wheel 6 of the mechanism B through arms 5, 8 and 12 with an elastic body 13. Therefore, the wheel is compressed to the inner surface of pipe wall 21 at suitable strength and rolled on the wall. Since the mechanisms are arranged at the front and rear parts of the main bodies 1a and 1b as one set and the central shafts 2 are supported in this apparatus, the apparatus is moved with the shaft being kept on the axis of the pipe.
