PURPOSE: To stop smoothly even when a motor vehicle goes down a steep slope by providing a rotation sensor, an r.p.m. detecting circuit, a CPU, and a drive/ reverse switching circuit.

CONSTITUTION: Number of revolution and rotational direction (advancing direction) are inputted from a rotation sensor 14 through an r.p.m. detecting circuit 15. A CPU 10 delivers a driving command to a main relay 19, a brake pulse to a motor dynamic brake circuit 21, and a driving pulse to a motor drive circuit 22. If the traveling speed is lower than an ultra-low stopping speed under condition of zero duty and the motor vehicle is traveling in reverse direction at the time of brake stop, an electromagnetic brake 24 is operated to stop the motor vehicle. If the traveling speed is higher than the stopping speed, a drive/reverse switching circuit 20 is operated to apply reverse driving power onto a motor M thus dropping the traveling speed below the stopping speed before the electromagnetic brake 24 is operated. According to the constitution, the motor vehicle can stop smoothly even when the motor vehicle goes down a steep slope.
