Abstract:
PURPOSE: To improve convenience by detecting a self-position and the azimuth, and voice-synthesizing a new prefecture name and the like to output it at the time of passing the prefectural border or the like on a map displaying the self-position.
CONSTITUTION: Output signals from an azimuth sensor 11, a vehicle speed sensor 12 and a GPS receiver 13 are inputted to a CPU 18 through input interface (I/F) circuits 22, 23. The CPU 18 reads a program from a program ROM 19 and obtains the latitude and longitude of the present position of an own vehicle. On the basis of the present position, map information in a specified range around this present position is read from a CD-ROM drive 14. The present prefecture name data is taken in from this map information, and whether the present prefecture name is the same as the preceding prefecture name is judged. In the case of the present prefecture name being different from the preceding prefecture name, this prefecture name is voice-outputted through a voice processor 26 and a speaker 27.
