PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To predict a travel time precisely at a future time on a current day through the use of actual travel time data up to the present time of the current day concerning a road section for the prediction of the travel time and past statistical travel time data of the same road section.
SOLUTION: Actual travel time data T0(j) up to the present time of the current day is collected concerning the road section for the prediction of the travel time. A plurality of kinds of statistical travel time data Tk(j) collected in the past on a day with a traffic condition being the same as that of the current day are acquired concerning the same road section. A plurality of kinds of the statistical travel time data Tk(j) which are similar in a time change trend to the actual travel time data T0(j) are selected from the acquired statistical travel time data Tk(j). Data T4(2), T4(3), etc., far removed from a distribution relative to data after the present time in a plurality of the selected statistical travel time data Tk(j) are excluded. Then the travel time after the present time is predicted based on the non-excluded remaining statistical travel time data Tk(j) after the present time.
