PURPOSE: To further properly set a target acceleration or deceleration for enhancing the operability of a traveling control device by changing the corresponding relationship between the operating condition of a manual operation member and the target acceleration or deceleration being set in accordance with this, in response to the vehicle speed.

CONSTITUTION: On the basis of an operating condition of an operation member, not shown, being manually operated by an operator, a target acceleration or deceleration of an automobile is set by a means A. And on the basis of the set target acceleration or deceleration, an acceleration/deceleration device, not shown, is controlled by a means B. In the traveling control device as mentioned above, the vehicle speed of the automobile is detected by a vehicle speed sensor C. And in accordance with the detected vehicle speed, the corresponding relationship between the operating condition of the operation member and the target acceleration or deceleration is changed by a means D which is incorporated in the above means A. Thus, a target acceleration or deceleration can be further properly set for enhancing the operability of the traveling control device.
