This traveling controller for the vehicle controlling the magnitude of the reaction of an accelerator pedal in the vehicle comprises a throttle valve opening control means controlling the opening of a throttle valve according to the operation amount of the accelerator pedal, an accelerator pedal reaction imparting means imparting an operating reaction onto the accelerator pedal, and a defect detection means detecting the abnormality of the accelerator pedal reaction imparting means. When the abnormality of the accelerator pedal reaction imparting means is detected by the abnormality detection means, the throttle valve opening control means reduces the opening of the throttle valve. After the abnormality of the accelerator pedal reaction imparting means is detected by the abnormality detection means, the throttle valve opening control means stops the control for reducing the opening of the throttle valve when the operation amount of the accelerator pedal is lowered to a prescribed level or less (for example, when the operation amount of the accelerator pedal becomes zero).
