To provide a traverse device capable of suppressing inertia when the rotation direction of a magnetic shaft is reversed and reducing rope skipping phenomenon of the magnetic shaft caused by attraction of a magnetized part of a slider.
In the central part of the traverse on the outer surface of a magnetic shaft 3, there are discontinuities in a cylindrical magnetic substance piece 18a on the outer surface of a first cylindrical member 18 and the discontinuities are filled with spacers 19 made of nonmagnetic material. As a result, when a slider 8 (a traverse guide 7) reaches the central part of the traverse, attraction force from a second magnetized part 9 of the slider 8 acting on the cylindrical magnetic substance piece 18a of the magnetic shaft 3 is weaker than that acting on an end part of the traverse of the magnetic shaft 3 because magnetic action between the cylindrical magnetic substance piece 18a of the magnetic shaft 3 and the second magnetized part 9 of the slider 8 to each other is weak in comparison with that in the vicinity of the end part of the traverse.
