PURPOSE: To make it possible that even a physically handicapped person who has trouble in the hand inputs data to a computer easily, by dividing the display part of a cathode-ray tube to a display part for retrieval characters and a cursor and an input character display part.

CONSTITUTION: A cathode-ray tube display part 2 is provided in the upper part of a device body 1, and a treadle switch operation part 3 is provided in the lower part. The display part 2 is divided to a retrieval character display part A, where retrieval characters including alphabets, numbers, symbols, and Kana (Japanese syllabary) characters and a cursor S which designates one optional character and is moved freely are displayed, of the upper half and an input character display part B, where a sentence generated by characters designated by the cursor S is displayed, of the lower half. The operation part 3 is provided with a horizontally and vertically operatable switch 4 for cursor movement and a push-button switch 5 for input, and these switches can be operated by left and right feet of the operator, respectively. The switch 4 is operated to move the cursor S to a desired character of the display part A, and the switch 5 is operated to display this character on the display part B, thus inputting a sentence.
