PURPOSE: To obtain easily handleable waste water treating agent capable of forming coagulated precipitate having small adhesive property and satisfactory settling characteristic by incorporating porous fine powder in addition to chemical for generating Al(OH)3.
CONSTITUTION: A treating agent for oil-contg. waste water is obtd. by mixing at least one among salts such as aluminium sulphate, aluminium chloride, etc. as the first component, alkali metal or alkaline earth metal compd. e.g. NaOH, Ca(OH)2 for generating Al(OH)3 by reacting with the first component, as the second component, and diatomaceous earth, γ-alumina powder, etc. as the third component. When the agent is added to oil-contg. waste water, porous fine powder sticks to oil drops aggregated by Al(OH)3 to cover the oil drops forming nonsticky particles, which are settled immediately.
