PURPOSE: To utilize energy of slag of steel making for efficient treatment of dust, etc. by calcining the dust and sludge, charging the calcined material into the slag, accelerating reaction by mechanical stirring and recovering volatile metallic components.
CONSTITUTION: Dust and sludge are made into a lumped material by a pelletizer 1 or briquetting machine 2 according to need and is charged into a hopper 3. Such material is charged by a belt conveyor 5 into a calcination furnace 4 and is calcined then a damper 7 is opened and a dust collector 6 is operated. The calcined material is dropped into a hopper 8 and if necessary, the calcined material is charged together with a reaction accelerator in common use as an agent for preventing collapsion from a hopper 13 into the slag of steel making contained in a slag ladle 10 in a hermetic chamber 11. The mixture composed of the slag and the calcined material is stirred by a mechanical stirrer 12. The volatile metals such as Zn, Pb, etc. generated by such stirring are collected into a cyclone and the dust collector 6 via a damper 14.
