PURPOSE: To obtain a treating material giving a coating film which has excellent hydrophilic properties and anticorrosiveness and does not emit malodor, by mixing an alkali metal silicate, an amino alcohol, and a water-soluble resin or a water-foluble silane coupling agent.
CONSTITUTION: A treating material containing an alkali metal silicate, an amino alcohol, and a water-soluble resin and/or a water-soluble silane coupling agent. The alkali metal silicate to be used has preferably a molar ratio of SiO2 to M2O of 0.5W3. If the molar ratio is less than 0.5, the anticorrosiveness of the coating film will be unsatisfactory; if above 3, an effect of controlling the malodor of the coating film will be small. An amino alcohol remarkably inhibits the emission of malodor peculiar to an alkali metal silicate film. As the water- soluble resin, a water-soluble nylon, a naturally occurring high-molecular polysaccharide, etc. are effectively used. A preferable silane coupling agent is that of formula I or II (wherein R1 is a 1W3C alkyl; R2 is a 1W3C alkylene).
