To efficiently decompose and remove ethanolamine by subjecting ethanolamine-containing waste water to the action of anaerobic microorganisms after subjecting to that of aerobic microorganisms, subjecting the treated water to the action of anaerobic and aerobic microorganisms again, and filtering the treated water by a separation membrane.
First, waste water (ethanolamine-containing waste water) (a) generated when an ion exchange resin purifying a secondary system coolant of a heat exchanger in a PWR type nuclear power plant is reproduced at a decrease in performance, is introduced into a first anaerobic resolution tank 1. In here, most of organic substances such as ethanolamine are decomposed by facultative anaerobic microorganisms (denitrifying bacteria) under anaerobic conditions. Subsequently, the treated water is introduced into a first aerobic resolution tank 2 where filamentous microorganisms, together with aerobic microorganisms, live as dominant species, to decompose organic substances, such as ethanolamine, remaining in the waste water. After that, the treated water is transferred to a second anaerobic resolution tank 3 and a second aerobic resolution tank 4 in sequence to decompose and remove the organic substances such as ethanolamine.
