Abstract:

To provide a method for efficiently decomposing by-produced high-boiling compounds in the manufacturing method of gamma-butyrolactone to obtain organic acid salts convertible into "succinic anhydride or succinic acid" as a raw material thereof.

The highly efficient and industrially advantageous method for purifying the organic acid salts comprises treating the high-boiling compounds having an ester bond by-produced in the manufacturing method of gamma-butyrolactone with an alkaline aqueous solution to convert it into an aqueous solution containing the organic acid salts convertible into "succinic anhydride or succinic acid" as the raw material thereof and 1,4-butanediol, and adding a water-soluble organic compound as a poor solvent to the obtained aqueous solution thereby to effect solid-liquid separation by precipitating the organic acid salts as a solid from the aqueous solution of the organic acid salts containing alcohols, high-boiling compounds while keeping the remaining alcohols and high-boiling compounds in the aqueous solution.
