Abstract:
PURPOSE: To easily and efficiently decompose even a difficult-to-decompose cyanide compd. without generating a sludge contg. the cyanide compd. by adding an oxidizing agent to a cyanide compd.-contg. waste in the alkaline medium in the presence of copper salts and heating the waste.
CONSTITUTION: An oxidizing agent is added to a cyanide compd.-contg. waste in the alkaline medium in the presence of copper salts, and then the waste is heated to treat the cyanide compd. Accordingly, when the waste is neutral or acidic, an alkali such as NaOH is added to make the waste alkaline. The oxidizing agent has to be added in an amt. more than the equivalent to oxidize the CN ion to CNO ion and is increased when a material to be oxidized is contained in the waste in addition to the CN ion. Copper salts are added, if necessary, and then the waste is heated. As a result, the CN ion of the cyanide compd. contained in the waste is efficiently decomposed to CNO ion.
