Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a treatment method which substantially reduces a volume of decontamination waste liquid containing radioactive substances to be dis charged from a chemical decontamination process of radioactive metallic wastes, and which enables such treatment as to discharge no hazardous substances to the environment.
CONSTITUTION: Decontamination liquid is thermally decomposed in a themal decomposing furnacce 1 and the residuals thereof is melt and solidified in a melter furnace 2. Gas being generated during the thermal decomposition process is filtrated by a HEPA filter 4 and the like, and thereafter is led to a cooling tower 6 and a scrubber 7 in order to recollect nitric acid and hydrochloric acid as well. These nitric acid and hydrochloric acid are re-used as decontaminant, later on. Gas which comes out of the scrubber 7 is made to contact to an NaOH at another scrubber 8 to turn into an NaCl and then is discharged into the sea water. Furthermore, the gas is de-nitrified at a dry de-nitrafication facility 10 to be decomposed into N2 and O2 and then to be discharged into the air.
