PURPOSE: Highly efficient recovery of oil from dehydrogenated ethylbenzene gas is performed by using adsorption recovery system essentially consisting of activated carbon fibers under proper condition.
CONSTITUTION: Dehydrogenated ethylbenzene gas containing less than 100 g/Nm3 of oil such as benzene and styrene is introduced below 40°C into a recovery system consisting of active carbon fibers so that the oil is absorbed by fibers. The recovery system consists of two systems and operates so that absorption of one system and desorption of the other alternately occur by timer at preset intervals. Efficient change operation is achieved by selecting the interval to a time at which benzene removal efficiency from the gas decreases to 90%. For desorption, steam below 140°C is injected for several minutes. Due to fine pore structures of carbon fibers, desorption is especially easy, the property which distiguishes this from conventional active carbon. Oil mixed with steam is cooled and separated outside the system.
