PURPOSE: To efficiently purify water, while making good use of active carbon to absorb COD, by adding the active carbon to water treated in an active sludge process, agitating the treated water while being aerated for a fixed time, coagulation-sedimenting the agitated water, and then discharging the resulting purified water.
CONSTITUTION: Raw water of 500ppm BOD and 500ppm COD is introduced into a sedimentation vessel 1, where it is aerated and agitated to perform microbic treatment with active sludge. The purified water of 5ppm BOD and 60ppm COD is introduced into a reaction vessel 2. On the other hand, active carbon which was used during sugar manufacturing is supplied into a cultivation vessel 3, and microbes are cultivated with active sludge under aeration. The regenerated active carbon together with the purified water is introduced into the reaction vessel 2 as shown in the arrow 9. After they are reacted by aeration and agitation, the water is discharged through a coagulating sedimentation vessel 4 as shwon in the arrow 10. This discharged water comes into a state of up to 1ppm BOD and up to 10ppm COD.
