Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high-quality treated water usable as potable water and to obtain sludge having good dewaterability by treating water containing fluorine ions and manganese ions, such as groundwater and river water.
SOLUTION: An aluminum compound and permanganic acid and/or its salt are added to the water containing the fluorine and manganese ions to effect reaction in a reaction chamber 1 and thereafter the water is passed through a membrane separator 2. The permeate is discharged to the outside of the system and, on the other hand, the concentrate is returned to the reaction chamber 1. Accordingly, Al(OH)3 deposits with the sludge in the returned concentrate as a nucleus and the fluorine in the raw water is efficiently adsorbed into this Al(OH)3, by which the sludge having the good dewaterability is obtained. In oxidation of the manganese ions by the permanganate, the concentrate is returned, by which the good treatment is carried out with the smaller consumption of the permanganate and consequently without the occurrence of the problem of the degradation in the treated water quality by the residual permanganate.
