To provide a treatment method capable of conveniently making waste water containing organic nitro substance harmless.
The waste water which contains the organic nitro substance having at least one kind of group selected from nitro group and nitroso group is treated in the presence of nitrogen reducing bacteria and the organic material is decomposed and detoxified by using a solid coexistence material mainly consisting of alkali (earth) metal carbonate and sulfur. The solid coexistence material is preferably an integrated material consisting of sulfur and calcium carbonate, an integrated material obtained by fusing and solidifying sulfur or a material integrally obtained by compounding a water insoluble or hardly-soluble binder or to alkali (earth) metal carbonate powder/sulfur powder.
